How to Solve Post Installation Issues with the BackupBuddy Plugin

Question 1:

When I go to my website nothing happens. I get a blank page. same when I try to log into WP.

Answer: The first possible reason for this is that the migration script did not successfully replace the file called “index.php“.

If you try to view or edit the file, you’ll see a very few codes with usual the “silence is golden” text.

<?php
// Silence is golden. PMThemes.com...
?>

A newly installed WordPress should have a working code (see code below) on its index.php file.

<?php
/**
 * Front to the WordPress application. This file doesn't do anything, but loads
 * wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.
 *
 * @package WordPress
 */

/**
 * Tells WordPress to load the WordPress theme and output it.
 *
 * @var bool
 */
define( 'WP_USE_THEMES', true );

/** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );

Answer 2: Another possible reason, especially if you try to log in through WP admin, is that your webhost is running an old version of PHP. WordPress 5.4 requires at least 5.6.20.

If this is the case, you must upgrade your PHP version to at least 7.0

What to Do

Edit the index.php file of your newly installed site then copy and paste the working code above. Save your changes then refresh your browser.

If you have other existing WordPress sites on your webhost/server, just copy the index.php file and replace the index file on your newly-installed WP site.

If you are running an old PHP version, you should consider upgrading to at least 7.0. See quick tutorial here.

Step by Step Guide

1. Edit the index.php file on your newly installed site.

2. Copy the whole working code below then paste it replacing everything on that file.

<?php
/**
 * Front to the WordPress application. This file doesn't do anything, but loads
 * wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.
 *
 * @package WordPress
 */

/**
 * Tells WordPress to load the WordPress theme and output it.
 *
 * @var bool
 */
define( 'WP_USE_THEMES', true );

/** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );

3. Click the “Save Changes” button the refresh your site.
